Sell Silver in Canada — A Clear Live-Price Offer for Bars and Coins
Silver is bulky, heavy and priced by the ounce, so selling it well is mostly about a fair live-price offer and a counter that can handle weight without drama. Gold Stock Corp buys silver bars, coins and rounds every business day at our Mississauga head-office store (1323 Matheson Blvd E), our Malton store (7086 Airport Rd #3) and our Vancouver store (736 Granville St #510), and by insured mail-in from anywhere in Canada: your metal is weighed, its fineness confirmed, and the offer is built from the live spot price with the breakdown shown before you decide.
What we buy
Minted and cast bars from 1 ounce to 100 ounces and kilo bars, from recognized refiners; sovereign coins including Canadian Maple Leafs, American Eagles, Britannias and Philharmonics; and silver rounds from recognized mints. Sealed, assay-certified bars are the quickest to price. Loose bars and coins are tested on the spot — weight, dimensions and XRF purity checks are standard at our counters, so an unsealed bar is a routine purchase, not a problem.
We price silver on its fine-metal content: the item's weight in troy ounces multiplied by its fineness, valued at the live spot price, less a margin that depends on the product's form and resaleability. Recognized investment products carry the tightest margins; that is a market fact, not a negotiating tactic, and it is why the breakdown is shown to you item by item.
Selling in person and by mail
In person is simplest for most holdings: bring your silver to Mississauga, Malton or Vancouver, watch it weighed and tested, and decide on the offer with the metal in front of you. For larger holdings — a 100 ounce bar is over three kilos, and a serious stack is a car journey, not a pocket — call ahead so the counter is ready for the weight.
Mail-in suits sellers outside our store cities: ship insured and tracked, and on arrival your metal is weighed, tested and reported as an itemised offer for your approval before anything is final. Decline, and your metal is returned insured. Either way you will need valid identification for the transaction record, which protects both sides and gives you the paperwork an estate or an accountant will later ask for.
A note on sterling and scrap silver
This page is about investment silver. Sterling silverware, jewellery and scrap are a different counter conversation — priced on their actual silver content after testing, at refining-based margins rather than bullion margins. Bring them in by all means, but expect the honest distinction: a .999 fine bar and a sterling teapot are both silver, and they are not priced the same way.
Frequently asked questions
How is my silver offer calculated?
Weight in troy ounces times fineness, valued at the live spot price at the moment of testing, less a margin that depends on the product's form. The breakdown is shown item by item before you decide.
Do you buy unsealed or loose silver bars?
Yes. Loose bars are weighed and purity-tested at the counter (XRF) as a routine part of the purchase.
Can I sell silver by mail from another province?
Yes — insured, tracked mail-in. We report an itemised offer on arrival for your approval; nothing is final until you accept, and declined metal is returned insured.
Do I need ID to sell silver in Canada?
Yes, valid identification is recorded for the transaction, as with any precious-metals purchase from the public.
