Platinum Jumps as Precious Metals Extend Their Rally — November 4, 2026

Precious metals extended their rally into midday trading on Wednesday, November 4, 2026, with platinum taking the lead in Canadian-dollar terms as well. As of 12:35 PM ET, spot platinum stood at C$2,092.31 an ounce, up 5.17 percent from the previous close of C$1,989.48. Spot silver stood at C$73.11 an ounce, up 4.83 percent from the previous close of C$69.74, and spot gold stood at C$5,680.71 an ounce, up 3.16 percent from the previous close of C$5,506.66. The midday advance builds on a strong morning rebound after Tuesday's slide. The move is being driven by the U.S. midterm election result working through the dollar and Treasury yields. Democrats swept the midterms, and the U.S. dollar fell to a one-month low while Treasury yields eased, with the 10-year yield near 4.93 percent. A softer dollar and lower yields cut the cost of holding bullion and make dollar-priced metals cheaper for overseas buyers. Gold rose about 3 percent in global trading, on track for its biggest daily gain since August 19. Traders still price a high probability of a Federal Reserve rate increase at the December 8–9 meeting, after the Fed held its benchmark rate at 3.75 to 4.00 percent last week, so Friday's U.S. payrolls report is the next test of the rally. What it means for buyers: all three metals are materially higher than Tuesday's close, and platinum's midday acceleration shows how quickly prices can move in a thinner market. Buyers who waited for clarity after October's correction are paying more today than at any earlier point in the session, so confirming the live price at the time of an order and buying in tranches remain the practical approach while payrolls and the December Fed meeting are still ahead. What it means for sellers: selling and trade-in values are reset sharply higher. Gold is up C$174.05 an ounce on the session, silver is up C$3.37, and platinum is up C$102.83, so scrap, coins and bars valued against Tuesday's close are worth materially more at today's levels. Jewelers face the same reset on replacement costs and should quote from today's spot rather than any price list printed before the election.
