Buy gold bars in Canada — the complete guide
A gold bar is the most direct way to own physical gold: a known weight of refined metal, stamped with its purity, carrying the lowest premium over the spot price of any gold product. Gold Stock Corp sells gold bars across Canada at live Canadian-dollar prices — online with insured delivery, and over the counter in Mississauga, Malton and Vancouver. This guide covers the formats, the difference between minted and cast bars, how premiums work, and what to check before you buy.

Formats and weights: from 1 gram to 1 kilogram
Gold bars are sold by weight, and the Canadian market uses both grams and troy ounces. Common formats include 1 g, 5 g, 10 g and 20 g minted bars; 1 oz (31.1 g), 50 g and 100 g bars at the mid-range; and 10 oz and 1 kg bars for larger holdings. Every bar we sell is 999.9 fine gold — four nines — which exceeds the 99.5% purity Canada requires for GST/HST-exempt investment gold.
Smaller bars cost more per gram but are easier to resell in pieces and suit gradual buying. Larger bars carry the tightest premiums and are the efficient choice when you already know gold is a long-term holding.
Minted bars vs cast bars
Minted bars are struck from blanks like coins, with sharp designs and (usually) a sealed assay card certifying weight and purity. They are the standard retail format up to 100 g, present well, and are easy for any dealer to verify and buy back.
Cast bars are poured into moulds, giving each bar a unique, slightly rugged finish. Casting is the traditional format for large bars — 10 oz and 1 kg — where the buyer cares about metal content and the lowest possible premium rather than presentation. Both are 999.9 fine; the choice is about format, premium and how you plan to sell later.
How gold bar premiums work
The price of a gold bar is the spot price of its metal content plus a premium. The premium pays for refining, minting or casting, assaying, secure transport and the dealer's margin. It shrinks as bars get bigger: a 1-gram bar may carry a premium several times higher, per gram, than a 1-kilo bar. When you sell, a dealer buys back at a price based on spot — so the premium you paid is the main cost of entering and exiting. Buying larger formats, and buying from a dealer who publishes live prices and guarantees buyback, keeps that round-trip cost low.
AARUS bars — minted in Canada
Alongside bars from internationally recognised refiners, we stock AARUS bars, produced by our own mint here in Canada. Each AARUS bar is serialized and its weight and fineness are recorded in an online verification registry, so authenticity can be checked in seconds — by you, or by any future buyer. It is the shortest supply chain in Canadian bullion: minted in Canada, sold by a Canadian dealer, bought back at the same counter.
Taxes, delivery and buyback
GST/HST: investment-grade gold bars (99.5% purity or higher) are exempt from GST/HST in Canada, so the listed price is the full price. Delivery: online orders are shipped insured anywhere in Canada, or held for pickup at Mississauga, Malton or Vancouver. Buyback: we buy back the bars we sell — and other bullion, jewellery and scrap — at live market-based prices through our sell-to-us service. If you would rather not keep bars at home, secure storage is available.
